Thailand Elephants – Rash on legs?

Hello,

So im off to Thailand next week - I am riding an elephant one day. A friend said that when she rode the elephants she got a rash on her legs - She suggested that once we get back to the hotel to wash our legs with anti-bacteria wash. Has anyone heard of this or had experience?

  1. I never heard of this before. When you ride elephants wear long pants!
Bathing rarely hurts anything so go ahead and do it.

Did your friend stay cheap places that had bed bugs? It could be something else that gave her a rash.

An elephant rash shows up in this blog.

I have been on a few elephants and close to them a few times but never had any skin reactions to them.

    Good luck.

  2. It can’t hurt to wash after riding an elephant, they are animals and who knows where they’ve been? I’ve never known anyone to get a rash from riding elephants though, but I’m sure it’s possible.

A lot of people who come to Thailand get heat rashes that aren’t used to the hot and humid weather, it could have been that too.

  4. Wear long pants!

  5. Normally you ride on a chair and I have never had any problems but it is always best to have at least 3 showers a day anyway because of the climate and humidity – also Body Odour is frowned upon in Thailand

  6. If she road bareback (not in a chair) she probably has a rash from the stiff hair on the elephants back rubbing on her bare legs. I don’t know if pants would help but if they were thick?
